Considerations in selecting research problem
There are certain things to be consider while selection the research problem. Some of major consideration while selecting the social work research problem are:
- Interest of researcher:
Interest is vital components while selecting research problem. If the researcher is interested to understand the issues of domestic violence then the problem related to domestic violence is interesting topic for research question. Interest on issues increase the curiosity to researcher.
- Knowledge of researcher (field of researcher):
Knowledge about the subject matter of the research is also important factor that must be consider because if the researcher have knowledge about the subject matter of research problem it make easy to conduct to research, developing methodology, scale construction, formulating research problem, etc.
- Availability of data:
The research is fail where there is no adequate data to draw conclusion. Availability of data determine the success and termination of complete research. Thus, availability of data must be considered while selecting research question.
- Ethical issues:
While conducting research there are different factors that affect research so, ethical issues must also consider while defining research problem.
The topic selected for research must be manageable and complete. The manageable topic for research is consider as problem having specific in nature and can be solve by answering tow or three specific objectives.
- Area of topic:
If the area of topic is broad it is very difficult to conduct research activities. If the research topic is specific the research activite is effective and efficient. Thus area of problem must be consider while defining research questions.
